Spinal Disc Decompression

What is Spinal Disc Decompression Therapy?

Spinal Disc Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical treatment to help in the management of low back/leg or neck/arm pain.  Decompression Therapy can relieve the pain or numbness associated with herniated, ruptured or bulging discs, sciatica, spinal arthritis, headaches and degenerative discs or facet joints.

Decompression Therapy relieves your pain through decompression(unloading due to distraction and positioning) of the cervical and lumbar discs and joints.  This gentle, repetitive stretching reduces pressure on the discs and joints while increasing blood and fluid flow.  The overall effect is natural healing of your spine.

How Does Decompression Work?

During Spinal Disc Decompression Therapy, a negative pressure is created within the disc.  Because of this negative pressure, a vacuum effect is produced which can pull the herniated or protruded disc material back within the normal confines of the disc.

Are There Medical Studies That Demonstrate The Effectiveness Of Decompression Therapy?

Yes, there have been many studies done to evaluate the safety and results of Decompression Therapy.  They showed an 86 - 90% reduction in disc herniations.  Also, in other studies the majority of patients reported "good" to "excellent" results from their treatment.

Who Will Benefit From Decompression Therapy?

Anyone who has back or neck pain caused in whole or part by a damaged disc or joint may be helped by Spinal Decompression Therapy.  Research has shown proven results for: Herniated or Ruptured Discs, Sciatica, Facet Syndrome, Arm and Leg Pain, Spinal Stenosis, Failed Back Surgery and Numbness or Weakness in the hands or feet.  The Doctors of Preferred Chiropractic will fully evaluate your condition to see if Decompression is right for you.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

The number of treatment sessions and your specific treatment plan will be determined by your Doctor after your initial examination and evaluation.  A typical treatment plan will include 12-20 treatments.  A Decompression treatment Session will last from 10-30 minutes.

Is Decompression Therapy Painful?

In almost all cases the treatment is completely painless.  In fact, some patients fall asleep during the Decompression session.

Will I Receive Other Therapies During My Treatment?

Yes, during the initial phase of care muscle stimulation and ice will be applied to reduce inflammation and help control pain.  Chiropractic adjustments/joint manipulation may also be administered.  When the severe pain is decreased active rehabilitation exercises will be done to strengthen the spinal musculature.

This Sounds Like What I Need, How Do I Get Started?
